Tayfun Ozlu makes the cut on Day1 D

Entries 277 / Left 35

If we were at a concert we'd be at Woodstock '69, even if the Jimi Hendrix on duty answers to the name of Tayfun Ozlu (photo below) and comes from Turkey. His, the one staged on Day 1 D of the IPS Main Event, was a solo in true style as, in addition to taking the lead in the overall count, he managed to close with around three times as many chips as the second-placed player.

Before reading what the new chip leader had to say, let's take a look at the numbers: 277 entries, 210 of which were singles and 67 re-entries, bringing the total to 582, around 80 less than last year's edition, the one with the European record, after the first four flights.

Thirty-five people, a little more than 10% of the field, went through, which together with the 37 from the first three Day1s took the number of qualifiers to 72.

"My tournament started off very well and got better as towards the end of the day I managed to win a few stacks which allowed me to climb so high in the count.

I do not play online but prefer live, even though I am not a professional. Is this the first time I've been chip leader at a Day 1? Yes, absolutely!"

The Top 5

As mentioned at the start, the gap between Turkey's Tayfun Ozlu and the second chip leader, Czech Petr Satek, is abysmal. The former closes at 1,700,000, his pursuer at 634,000.

In third place is Poland's Pawel Tadeusz Ladniak at 609,000, while in fourth and fifth place are two Germans, specifically "AffemitWaffe" at 530,000 and "The Duck" (489,000).

Seven Italians qualified, the best of whom was Anthony Benja Mahaut, ninth in the ranking at 463,000. In last place was EPM Spring Edition winner Stefan Drusca (CLICK HERE to read more about his feat earlier this year).

And now let's take a look at the complete list of the 35 qualifiers.
