Entries 291/ Left 37

The second of today’s two scheduled flights at the France Poker Festival (FPF) Main Event has just come to a close. Day 1F attracted 291 entries, bringing 37 more players into Sunday’s Day 2.

Topping them all was Slovenian player Mitja Pasutto, who bagged a massive 1,218,000 chips, catapulting himself to the top of the overall leaderboard with a gap of over 400,000 chips between him and the second-largest stack.

An outstanding performance, especially considering the pace set in previous days. Here’s what Mitja had to say shortly after bagging:

"It was a steady climb throughout the day. I didn’t win any massive all-ins, but I consistently picked up good hands. In the later levels, having a big stack allowed me to apply pressure and steal pots. I tried to stay aggressive when it made sense, and it paid off.

There was one key hand that really boosted my stack: the flop came 8-7-2. I had a set of eights, and my opponent had seven-eight. That hand doubled me up and gave me a lot of momentum going forward.

The table was tough—there were a lot of strong players—but I managed to navigate it well. By the end of the day, I bagged around 1.2 million chips, maybe even a little more. I believe that makes me the overall chip leader. I heard the second-largest stack is around 780,000, so I’ve got nearly 50% more than that.

What’s funny is, I don’t play that aggressively in general. I’m usually the short stack just trying to survive, so being in this position is a bit unusual for me. I’m not a professional player—I just come to events from time to time. This is actually my first time here.

I don’t play many tournaments each year. Maybe five, ten if I’m lucky and can find the time. I did win one tournament in the past though—a state championship back home. That’s the only one I’ve ever won. Who knows how this one will go… maybe I’ll double up again, or maybe I’ll lose it all. But hey, it’s a good starting point"
