Entries 95/Left 14

The first of two scheduled flights for today has just come to an end – the Day 1E of the IPS, Italian Poker Sport Main Event – which recorded 95 entries and sent 14 players through to Day 2 on Monday.

The final stretch of the day, including the bubble phase, dragged on for over two hours after the dinner break, as it took three full levels to go from 18 left to the 14-player mark that sealed the money.

In the end, it was Matteo Inchiso who made the most of the situation, bagging 1,110,000 chips for Day 2. Here’s what today’s standout player told us right after the end of play:

"I had a great time at the tables today. I felt really comfortable, the tables were very soft, and I was able to open with a pretty wide range. When I hit a hand, I got paid off, and when I was bluffing, I managed to get folds. Of course, there were also a few spots where I had the nuts and someone paid me off, ending up in a tough spot for them.

There was one hand where I ended up bluffing with Ace-high, and I got called by King-high—so we actually won the hand by value instead of bluff. When things go like that… there’s really not much else to say.

As for the final hand, where I won a pot of over 600,000 chips: I opened with jack-ten of spades, even though by that point I was pretty much opening ATC. The flop came queen-eight-two, I made a continuation bet and got called. The turn was a nine, giving me a flush draw as well. I bet again, got another call, and then the river completed my flush. I shoved, got called by ace-queen, and took down a massive pot.

I’m now sitting with over 1,100,000 chips—let’s hope I can keep the momentum going on Monday for Day 2."
