Entries 47/Left 7

Day 1F – the second of two flights scheduled today for the IPS – Italian Poker Sport Main Event at the Casino di Sanremo – came to an end shortly before 4 a.m., adding 7 more players to the Day 2 lineup scheduled for Monday, out of a total of 47 entries.

It turned out to be a real marathon, despite being just a Day 1, with Swedish player Bakir Saranovic topping the field and bagging 667,000 chips. Clearly satisfied with his performance, here’s what he had to say right after the end of play.

"Today was a good day, even if it started off a bit slow. I was kind of bored at the beginning, but eventually I found some good spots and things started to go my way. Usually, I play slightly higher buy-in tournaments, and I tend to give people too much credit. I often assume they’re stronger than they really are, which doesn’t always work in a field like this—players tend to be wider.

I actually lost a big pot because of that. I put a guy on a strong hand, tried to push him out of the pot, and he just insta-called me with something much weaker than I expected. So yeah, I need to adjust for the coming days—maybe call a bit wider and trust my reads less when it comes to assuming strength.

I’m not a professional player, but I’ve been playing poker for 20 years, so I know my way around the game. I’ve been to Sanremo a few times before. I really like Italy, and I love Sanremo—it’s the perfect city, with a great casino and a really nice atmosphere. Especially during this season, it’s just a great place to be.

I usually travel and play when I can, but poker is more of a hobby for me. I work in construction, more specifically in consulting. So poker is a passion I’ve had for a long time, but I don’t want to go pro—I don’t think that lifestyle would suit me. It’s more fun when you have other options."
