“Because Sanremo is Sanremo!”—so went the slogan of Italy’s iconic music festival, a phrase that fits perfectly in the current poker context as well, given the unique bond between Texas Hold’em and Sanremo.
Day 1A of the €1,000 buy-in Main Event, event #5 of the nine scheduled for the first ten days of November, concluded with 172 entries and 43 players advancing to Day 2 on Sunday.
Leading the survivors is Polish player Mateusz Andrezej Sikora (pictured below), who was already at the top of the counts by the dinner break and ended the day as chip leader:
“It went really well! I played well and ran well, and when those two factors combine, climbing high in the chip count is inevitable. Do I play professionally? Yes, both online and live, though primarily online.
It was my first time playing in Italy, and it was initially challenging to handle the Italian temperament… What do I mean? Players were calling 3-bets and 4-bets more loosely than I expected, but that’s okay—actually, I kind of like it!”
Top 5
As for the top positions, Mateusz Matteo Sikora with 498,000 chips (equivalent to 166 BBs when play resumes), we have Manuel Valduga with 406,000 chips (135 BBs) and Peter Kvisthammar with 394,500 chips.
