Entries 450/ Left 67

Day 1D of the Italian Poker Open Main Event has concluded with a total of 450 entries. Of these, 67 players have secured a spot for Day 2 on Sunday, where they will join those already qualified from the first three starting flights.

Further down in the article, you’ll also find the Top 30 chip counts from Days 1A, 1B, and 1C.

The spotlight today is on Italian player Davide Suriano, who bagged an impressive 852,000 chips — by far the biggest stack seen so far in this event. Here’s what he had to say at the end of the day:

“One bullet—first and last. That was enough. A miracle, really,” he says with a smile. “I had pretty smooth tables all day. I doubled up early and always had room to play.”

He recalls a key hand that shaped his tournament:

“It started with an open from the lojack and a flat call from the cutoff. I squeezed from the button with A9 suited, and both players called. The flop came 8-6-4, giving me a flush draw. Everyone checked. The turn was a 5. Lojack bet one-third, cutoff called, and I called too.”

“Then came the 7 on the river, completing a possible straight on the board. Lojack shoved, cutoff called, and I reshoved. Neither of them had the nine—I did. I scooped it all and tripled up to 500K.”

From that point on, things kept going well:

“I won a few more pots, even though the pace slowed a bit toward the end because of stalling. I bagged 852,000—about 200K more than the next player. So yeah, feeling really good going into Sunday.”

Asked if he’s ever made a Final Day before, he nods:

“Yeah, once in Malta—at the Master, I think. I finished sixth. Let’s see how it goes this time… but yeah, get ready to take my picture again tomorrow.”
