Entries 121/ Left 14
The Day 1D of the Pirates Poker Treasure concluded after the scheduled 16 levels of play, with 121 entries bringing 14 players through to Day 2 on Sunday.
Bulgarian Iliya Savov Iliev is taking the spotlight today, who managed to bag a monster stack of 1,510,000 chips by the end of the day—three times the stack of today’s second-place player. How did he do it? Here’s a preview: during the redraw with 16 players left, Iliev, already the chip leader at his table, faced off against the tournament’s other chip leader from the neighbouring table.
In a spot he described at the end of the day, the Bulgarian managed to double up on the second-largest stack in play. Here’s how:
“I was on the button with Q-J suited and called MP’s open. The flop came J-5-2, and my opponent check-raised my bet. I just called. The turn paired the board with another 2, and my opponent retook the initiative, betting 200,000 chips, and I called.
The river brought another 5, double-pairing the board, and my opponent went all-in. After thinking briefly, I called and won the pot when he showed K-9 suited.
It was a crucial spot because, after that moment, I simply had to manage my stack. Hopefully, I can do just as well on Day 2!”
