The Shark Bay €1,000,000 GTD Main Event lit up the mid-August grind at King’s Resort Rozvadov. Impressive numbers with 2,963 total entries, and in the end only one could lift the trophy. That man was Marcus Yamaci from Germany, who earned the €132,500 top prize plus a WSOP Europe Main Event ticket, awarded to the top ten finishers.
The runner-up was Ciprian Paunescu from Romania, who delivered one of the most spectacular comebacks of the year. He started the Final Day with just 3.2 big blinds, having qualified through a flip&go the day before, and nearly pulled off the miracle. He eventually bowed out in second place for €71,000 and a WSOPE Main Event ticket.
Other notable names fell short. Natascha Sieppmann, the overnight chip leader with 35 left, couldn’t overcome her Main Event curse and had to settle for 28th place. Soon after, Fatos Haxhaj, a King’s regular, busted in quick succession of three hands.

Once the dust had settled, the spotlight was on the two finalists. The champion Marcus Yamaci shared his feelings after the win:
“Reaching such a final table is always exciting. I have to admit I felt a bit of pressure during the first ten minutes, but then I managed to relax and felt comfortable at the table. I restarted with about 5 million chips and with that stack I managed to reach the final table. Several important hands allowed me to go all the way, I had some good run outs and in the end everything went well."

Yes, I have to say my friends supported me a lot and that really helped me mentally to handle the situation.
What will change in my future? Absolutely nothing. I will enjoy the victory but I will go back to grinding tournaments as I always did. Am I a professional? Let’s say I am trying. What’s next? Well, the WSOP Europe Main Event ticket is already in my pocket and I won’t miss that chance.”

The runner-up Ciprian Paunescu looked back with pride at his deep run:
“It’s a pity, it could have been an incredible comeback. Still, it was a fantastic event and I’m really happy with where I finished. Maybe this just wasn’t my moment to win. It’s always great to play here; lately I’ve been attending more events around this area, especially in the last two years. There are so many tournaments going on that it’s hard to choose.

About the heads-up, yes, of course winning would have been better, but in the key hand my opponent hit two pair right away and from that point it was tough to turn things around. Still, I’m very satisfied, I’ll keep working on my game, I’ll keep grinding, and who knows, maybe we’ll meet again here soon for another interview — but next time not as the runner-up.”
